WESTERN BUREAU:

A proposal is on the table at the St James Municipal Corporation (StJMC) for the Little River Boulevard in East Central St James to be named in honour of the constituency's long-serving member of parliament, Edmund Bartlett, the country's minister of tourism.

The resolution was tabled by Mark McGann, councillor for the Somerton division, at last week's sitting of the regular monthly meeting of the StJMC. The Little River Boulevard runs off the Rose Hall Elegant Corridor into the community of Barrett Town.

"The honourable Edmund Bartlett has made and continues to make significant contributions to the social, economic and infrastructural growth and development of the city of Montego Bay and the wider parish of St James," McGann said.

The resolution states: "And, whereas he has dedicated over 35 years to public life, including being the member of parliament for the East Central St James constituency for over 15 years; whereas the St James Municipal Corporation shares the view that the honourable Edmund Bartlett must be recognised by the city of Montego Bay by way of the attachment of his name to a roadway in his honour ...".

The resolution, which was unanimously supported, will be sent to the Ministry of Local Government, which will have the final say on whether the resolution will be approved and the requisite action taken.
