Robbery suspect held in Christiana

A suspect has been taken into custody following the murder of a man during a robbery along the Richmond main road in Christiana, Manchester, on Monday.

Dead is 38-year-old Romeo Fuller, a taxi driver of Sedburgh district in Christiana.

Reports from the Christiana Police are that about 8:30 p.m., Fuller was driving a taxi with four passengers aboard when two male passengers proceeded to rob him and the other occupants of the vehicle.

During the robbery, shots were fired, and Fuller and one of the robbers were shot.

They were taken to hospital, where Fuller died while being treated.

The accused robber, whose identity is being withheld pending further investigations. was pointed out at hospital and arrested.

The other occupants of the taxi were unhurt.

 

 

American arrested after firearm found in airport luggage

A 26-year-old nurse assistant of Pheonix, Arizona in the United States, was on Monday arrested and charged following the seizure of a .38 Smith and Wesson Revolver and twelve .38 cartridges at the Norman Manley International Airport.

Reports are that about 11:10 a.m., Matthew Campbell checked in two bags and boarded a flight destined for Atlanta. Port security screened the luggage and the firearm and ammunition was found in one of his bags. He was removed from the flight and arrested and charged for illegal possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

Campbell is scheduled to appear in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court next Tuesday.

 

 

Guns, ammo seized in west Kgn

A high-powered rifle and a pistol, along with several rounds of ammunition, were seized by the Kingston West Police on Christopher Road in Kingston 14 on Monday.

Reports are that about 10:45 a.m., a police team was conducting a vehicular checkpoint operation on Collie Smith Drive in Kingston, when the driver of a Subaru motor car was signalled to stop. He failed to comply, and reportedly sped off.

The vehicle was later found abandoned along Christopher Road and a comprehensive search of the car unearthed an assault rifle with a magazine containing twenty-nine 5.56 cartridges and a Glock 17 pistol with one round of ammunition.

The occupants of the vehicle escaped.

 

 

O’Neil Grant returned as JCSA president

Incumbent President O’Neil Grant was re-elected to head the Jamaica Civil Service Association (JCSA) last Friday at the organisation’s annual general meeting at JACISERA Park.

Grant, with 1,009 votes, staved off a challenge from his second vice-president, Gillian Corrodus, who secured 852 votes, in a keenly contested election following weeks of campaigning.

It is Grant’s fifth consecutive two-year term as head of the oldest and largest public sector union in the Caribbean.

“My focus over the next two years will be to continue to improve our numbers as we have seen exponential growth over the past eight years. We have grown by over 130 per cent to a robust 29,000 and we expect to continue on that growth path for the foreseeable future” Grant said following the victory.
