Staff crushed by sisters’ murder

Staff morale at Choice Business Solutions in Kingston plunged yesterday as friends and colleagues of one of the sisters who were murdered in Duhaney Park, St Andrew, embraced each other for the first time since the incident.

Simona Plummer, recruitment manager at the entity, and her sister, who remains unidentified, were slain in the western St Andrew community Sunday afternoon.

Shantel Rush, human resource manager at Choice Business Solutions, told The Gleaner that staff are struggling to come to terms with Plummer’s death.

“It is a very touching topic for the entire staff. Simona was our recruitment manager and she has been with us for two years,” said Rush.

Rush described Plummer as a hard worker.

“She was warm, professional, approachable, loved what she did and had love for her sister and niece,” Rush said.

NO MOTIVE

Up to press time last night, the police Corporate Communications Unit (CCU) said that investigators were still trying to ascertain the identity of Plummer’s sibling.

The police also said that a motive has not been determined for the slaying.

Reports are that the women were at home on Keats Avenue when loud explosions were heard and men were seen running from a house.

Residents reported that two men purporting to work with a utility company were granted access to the rented house the women shared.

A search of the premises revealed that both women were shot dead in a bedroom.

A young girl who was at home at the time of the incident was not harmed.

Investigators theorise that a pillow was used to muffle the gunfire.

Duhaney Park residents said they knew little about the women, as they had recently moved into the community.

Calls to the commander in charge of the St Andrew South Police Division, Superintendent Gary Francis, went unanswered yesterday.

The double murder brings to 77 the number of homicides in the St Andrew South Police Division since the start of the year.
