River trip turns tragic as 22-y-o drowns

Grief gripped staff members at IBEX yesterday as the workers at the Greater Portmore-based business process outsourcing company continued to mourn the tragic passing of a colleague last weekend.
Black was the colour of the day as they reflected on the life of 22-year-old Javar Carroll, a customer service agent who died while reportedly tubing with friends in St Ann on Saturday.
IBEX Human Resource Manager Marianne Thomas told The Gleaner that while Carroll’s trip to the park was not connected to the company, the staff was shaken as he was a valued member of the team.
“He joined us in March 2017. It is always hard to lose a team member, and we will work with our employees if any help is needed. Our staff wore black to work in remembrance of him,” she added.
Thomas said that the loss of an employee is a tragic event and that the staff was holding Thomas’ family and friends in their thoughts and prayers.
According to the police, at about 4 p.m., Carroll was swimming with friends when he got into difficulties.
He body was later fished from the water and he was rushed to hospital, where death was confirmed.

The St Ann’s Bay police say that at this point, the matter is being treated as a suspected case of drowning. An autopsy is to be conducted to confirm the cause of death.
Investigations continue.
