Provisions of PNP Code of Conduct

Comrades have been asked to uphold several rules of engagement for the leadership elections in September.

Among the rules given are that they should avoid personal attacks on all other candidates, their teams and supporters; refrain from seeking any votes by threats, bribery, and other improper means or inducements and to, “accept the result when they are declared; to do all that is necessary and required to preserve the unity of the PNP and thereby enable the movement to fulfill its mission in the building of Jamaica our beloved nation ... .”

Other provisions include telling candidates to maintain accurate records of all campaign funds received; to ensure that they are not provide by tainted sources and to account for the expenditures incurred within seven days of the election and to accept the agreed procedures for compiling the voters list and to protect the integrity of the (internal) electoral process.

“To accept the agreed procedures for compiling the voters list and to protect the integrity of the integrity electoral process; to take all possible measures to ensure that all our supporters and team members comply with the guidelines as stipulated above. In the event of a breach of the above guidelines, there must be immediate public denunciation and repudiation of any such breach.”

Candidates are also further urged to “obey all existing joint agreements, declarations codes, rules and guidelines for the discharge of the public office; to spare no effort in promoting peace, tolerance and harmony within the nation, and thereby enhance justice, equity, development and progress in our land.”

Another revision include a cap on spending by the leadership and vice-presidential candidates.

Candidates have been asked “to maintain accurate record of all campaign funds received; to ebsure that they are not provided by tainted sources and to account for the expenditures occurred within seven days of the election.”

The voting process will be conducted by the Electoral Office of Jamaica.
