Security guard convicted on cocaine charge

A security guard who was held with more than 200 pounds of cocaine following a car chase two years ago has been convicted on drug charges.

Senior Parish Judge Tara Reid-Carr yesterday found 47-year-old Urcel Bundy guilty of possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine and trafficking cocaine when he appeared before the St Catherine Parish Court yesterday.

On September 17, 2017, a police team on operation attempted to intercept a motor car in Portmore, St Catherine. The driver refused to obey orders to stop and sped off. A chase ensued, ending with the vehicle crashing into a roundabout

The driver exited the vehicle and fled.

A search of the vehicle revealed 97 packages with cocaine weighing more than 200 pounds.

Bundy was held after he made a report to the police that he was abducted by persons unknown to him.

Two of three teen escapees recaptured

The St James police have recaptured two of three teenage boys who escaped from the Barrett Town Police Station lock-up on Friday.

The three – aged 13, 16 and 17 – were facing multiple charges, including robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. They reportedly cut the locks to the door securing their cell at the Barrett Town Police Station before making their escape.

The 17-year-old was recaptured last Saturday while a second was back in police custody yesterday.

They are expected to face additional charges of escaping custody.

Efforts to find the third escapee are ongoing.

 

 

Let us in or you will be charged, warn health officials

Health authorities are reminding persons who block public health inspectors from entering their premises to carry out their functions and that they can be fined a maximum of $1 million.

The warning comes as health workers encounter challenges in their efforts to eliminate mosquito-breeding sites as the island grapples with a deadly dengue outbreak.

Persons who do not take steps to rid their premises of mosquito-breeding sites can also be prosecuted and charged a maximum fine of $500,000.

The Public Health Act gives inspectors the power to enter private premises to execute their duties

 

 

Conductor charged after allegedly robbing students

A 21-year-old bus conductor is facing charges after allegedly robbing three students at gunpoint on October 3.

Marlon Cunningham of Cave Valley and York Castle Drive in the parish was charged last Thursday with robbery with aggravation and illegal possession of firearm.

The police report that the students were walking along a footpath in Brown’s Town about 7 p.m. on October 3 when they were held up at gunpoint and robbed.

A report was made and an investigation launched.

Cunningham was arrested during a police operation on October 10.

He was then placed on an identification parade and was subsequently charged after he was pointed out by the complainants.
