Manning’s School is mourning the death of National Housing Trust (NHT) executive Norris Rainford who collapsed on Sunday morning while participating in a 5K road race in Westmoreland.

Reports by the police are that shortly after 8 a.m., Rainford, the operations manager for Hanover and Westmoreland, and other participants were taking part in the annual event when he suddenly fell and became unconscious.

He was rushed to the Savanna-la-Mar Hospital, where he died while being treated.

Principal of Manning’s, Steve Gordon, told The Gleaner that the school and the Savanna-la-Mar community were saddened by Rainford’s passing.

“We at Manning’s are still in shock as to how sudden he passed, and we are yet to hear what really resulted in his death, but we have been sending condolences to his family since the incident occurred,” he said.

“We know the staff at Manning’s are in shock, and also the staff at NHT are still grieving over what happened.”

Rainford had reportedly participated in previous editions of the annual event.

He was an executive member of the Manning’s parent-teacher association and his children attend the school, Gordon said.

“You cannot find a more genuine and nicer person, and we are absolutely devastated over his sudden passing,” the principal added.
