Put more handwashing facilities at transport hubs – Hylton
WESTERN BUREAU:
Cabbies, busmen, and passengers need additional handwashing facilities to be installed at all public transportation centres to ensure the safety of the commuting public against COVID-19, André Hylton, opposition People’s National Party (PNP) spokesman, has said.
This call has come in the wake of local transmission of the novel coronavirus, with 10 cases so far recorded in Jamaica.
“To prevent the coronavirus outbreak through community spread, we want passengers using all transportation centres to be able to wash their hands before getting on to public buses and taxis,” the transport and works spokesman said.
Speaking with The Gleaner, Hylton, the PNP’s caretaker for the St James Central constituency, said that it was critical that preventative measures against the deadly pandemic be implemented now.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness reported that it was tracking up to 300 persons who potentially came in contact with novel coronavirus patients in St James, Kingston, St Andrew, St Thomas, Clarendon, and St Ann.
