THE MAJOR Investigation Division is leading a probe after the skeletal remains of what appears to be five bodies were exhumed from shallow graves in a section of the Washington Gardens community called ‘Danger Island’.

The police say that two shallow graves were found on the banks of the Sandy Gully in the vicinity of Weymouth Drive.

The operation, which began on Monday, was triggered by a missing person investigation.

The Gleaner understands that the bodies, wrapped in plastic, were in an advanced state of decomposition.

Cadaver dogs and detectives from the Scene of Crime Unit were combing the scene up to late Tuesday evening.

The operation began at 6 a.m. Tuesday and investigators believe it surrounds men missing from Clarendon more than a month ago.

However, acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Fitz Bailey said that investigators are awaiting the outcome of post-mortems.
