Lamekia Lamont, the 13-year-old student who was reported missing on March 26, wants to spend more time with her biological mother.

Lamekia was handed over to officers at the Greater Portmore Police Station on Monday night by her biological mother, Camille Blair, who had brought her to her Trelawny home on March 26.

There, the teenager met seven of Blair’s nine children.

“It was good. I was excited, because I got to meet my siblings,” the teen told The Gleaner in the presence of her adoptive father, Obadiah Lamont, on Tuesday.

Lamekia is pleading that the authorities not arrest her mother.

The teenager’s face was splashed across social media around the same time detectives located the body of 20-year-old accounting clerk Khanice Jackson along the Dyke Road in Portmore, St Catherine, two days after she was reported missing.

The disappearance of their daughter left the Lamonts on edge and they pleaded for her safe return.

Now that his daughter is safe, Mr Lamont has criticised Blair for how she went about reuniting with Lamekia. He said there would have to be rigid rules of engagement if future visits are to be approved.

“She has to do it in the proper way, she can’t just come and take her away like that, because we never know say a that happen,” Mr Lamont said.

“She have a right to know her mother and know her brother and sisters,” said Mr Lamont, who, along with his wife Millicent, had adopted Lamekia when she was three weeks old.

He told The Gleaner that Mrs Lamont was crushed by Lamekia’s disappearance and had refused to eat.

“She loves Lamekia and Lamekia know say she love her,” he said.

A total of 173 children were reported missing between January to February this year.

Ninety-six of them have been accounted for so far.
