A man was arrested by the St Catherine North police on Wednesday evening in connection with the seizure of nearly 150 rounds of ammunition.

The suspect, who the police said is 33 years old, was held during an intelligence-driven operation.

A red Nissan Tiida motor car was intercepted by the police about 8:30 p.m. and 46 rounds were discovered inside the vehicle, Deputy Superintendent of Police Linroy Edwards said.

The police reportedly escorted the suspect to his house in Portmore, St Catherine, where other ammunition was found.

One hundred rounds, along with one 12-gauge cartridge, were discovered at the house.

The detainee, who is being held pending further investigations, was arrested in Tawes Meadows, Spanish Town.

The police are urging Jamaicans to provide information about the whereabouts and operations of gangsters in a bid to help rid the country of violent crime.

“The people are tired of the Clans and One Order,” said Edwards, referring to Jamaica’s two most notorious gangs, which operated primarily in St Catherine.

“We remain resolute to nullify the gangs. We just need your assistance.”

A reputed top-tier member of the One Order Gang, who was held on October 26, remains in police custody.

Thirty-three alleged members of a splinter faction of the Clansman Gang are currently on trial on charges under the anti-gang legislation.
