Cops at the Mandeville Police Station are breathing a sigh of relief after a leaky roof that had sapped morale was finally repaired on Monday after yearlong complaints.

Personnel had cited severe demotivation as they have had to scurry to secure their possessions with every heavy shower of rain.

Police who The Gleaner interviewed said they had grown frustrated as their grouse went unresolved, citing a lack of respect from the Government.

“Our voices are finally heard and this pressing issue addressed,” said a cop stationed in Mandeville who requested anonymity.

Newly installed commanding officer for the Manchester Police Division, Superintendent Shane McCalla, had told The Gleaner mid-August that he was aware of the concern.

“I just took over command of the place recently, and that was brought to my attention, and it is being dealt with,” said McCalla, who was instated on July 25.

One cop who spoke with The Gleaner on condition of anonymity said front-line workers felt disregarded and neglected.

“As it rains, we have to be running to get out the way or else our belongings are damaged. They said it was fixed recently, however, it only got worse.”

The leakage has been going on from there was the addition of the new section for some years now, but it gets worse,” the source said.

The cop said that there were also health hazards in the form of a “dust-like substance” falling from the station’s ceiling.

“The problem has been reported to all the previous superintendents, including this present one. However, this one just took over command so he cannot be held accountable,” a cop said.

The police contended that the matter had fallen on deaf ears amid countless complaints.
