The Rt Reverend Rose Hudson-Wilkin, the Jamaica-born Bishop of Dover, will address the Festal Evensong at the Cathedral of St Jago de la Vega in Spanish Town, St Catherine, on Sunday.

Hudson-Wilkin was born in Montego Bay, St James, and describes herself as a “cradle Anglican”, having been baptised at the St James Parish Church when she was less than four months old.

She attended the Montego Bay High School for Girls and was the first black woman to have been ordained a bishop in the Church of England. She was previously chaplain to Queen Elizabeth II.

Hudson-Wilkin has been in the island for the past week and participated in an Anglican clergy conference in Runaway Bay, St Ann, over the past few days.

Sunday’s Festal Evensong, which begins at 3:30 p.m. at the Cathedral of St Jago de la Vega, kicks off the 200th anniversary celebrations for the Diocese of Jamaica and the Cayman Islands with musical fanfare.

The Anglican 200th anniversary celebrations will continue for several months.

On July 21, the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby, will preach at a national service to be held at the National Arena in Kingston.
