Alexey Zaystev, the Russian charged with four counts of manslaughter in relation to a crash on the Palisadoes main road in December 2022, has been granted permission to leave Jamaica and return to his homeland for one month, starting today.

Zaystev’s request was brought before the Home Circuit Court in downtown Kingston on Thursday, where his attorney, Peter Champagnie, KC, argued for his passport to be returned and stated that he would arrive back in Jamaica on April 1.

After hearing the request, Justice Leighton Pusey said, “Mr Zaystev, your bail conditions are varied, which is that permission will be granted for you to have your passport be returned to you tomorrow ... . I don’t think it’s realistic to say that you are going to get it today.

“He has permission to leave the island on March 1,” the judge stated.

Justice Pusey then asked for the time of his scheduled flight to leave the island.

Given that his return date would be a public holiday, Easter Monday, Justice Pusey stated that the passport should be returned on April 2.

Zaystev is to return to court on December 2, 2024.

The early morning crash on December 11, 2022, claimed the lives of 57-year-old Rosemarie Roberts-Banton, 18-year-old Zachery Heslop, 53-year-old taxi operator Delroy Grant, and Camille Stephenson-Grant.

All four victims were from Seaview Gardens in St Andrew.

Reports from the Harbour View police are that about 5:45 a.m., Grant was driving his Toyota Succeed motor car along the roadway when on reaching the vicinity of the roundabout, a collision occurred with a Toyota Prado Land Cruiser being driven by Zaystev.
