26-y-o man on scamming charges offered $400k bail

A Kingston man who reportedly told police that he was just doing a “ li’l scamming” and was not a “big scamma” after he fled from the lawmen and locked himself inside a room, was yesterday offered $400,000 bail when he appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court.

The 26-year-old accused, Romario Rennau, of a Mountain View address in Kingston, was offered bail by Senior Parish Judge Maxine Ellis on possession of identity information following a bail application by his attorney-at-law Steven Jackson.

The offender was offered bail on condition that he surrender his travel documents with a stop order in place and report to the Mountain View Police Station on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

According to the allegation, on August 17, police carried out a raid at the accuser’s home. During the operation, Rennau, on seeing the police, ran and locked himself inside a room.

After the homeowner opened the room, Rennau, when asked why he ran, reportedly said, “Officer, mi jus ‘fraid cause mi a do a li’l scamming. Mi a nuh big scamma like some man.”

His phone was reportedly searched and police found information for several overseas residents.

The phone was confiscated and he was taken into custody and charged.

In the meantime, Rennau’s case was transferred to the Home Circuit Court for mention on September 25.
