Christopher Zacca named 30th inductee into PSOJ Hall of Fame
The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) has announced Christopher Zacca, president and chief executive officer of Sagicor Group Jamaica, as the newest honoree to be inducted into the PSOJ Hall of Fame.
Zacca’s induction comes as the organisation representing Jamaica’s private-sector interests celebrates the award’s 30th anniversary.
Established to recognise business trailblazers who have significantly impacted Jamaica’s private sector, the PSOJ Hall of Fame award celebrates successful entrepreneurship, visionary leadership, and exemplary character.
This year, Zacca’s recognition as the 30th inductee comes in acknowledgement of his nearly four decades of leadership, during which the PSOJ said he has made an indelible impact on the country’s development.
“Since assuming the role of president and CEO of Sagicor Group Jamaica in May 2017, Mr Zacca has seamlessly integrated his extensive business acumen with philanthropy,” the PSOJ said in a statement.
“Under his leadership, Sagicor Group Jamaica made investments exceeding J$20 billion in 2023 alone, contributing to the nation’s economic growth.”
Prior to leading Sagicor, Zacca held senior roles at Red Stripe, the ATL Group, The Jamaica Observer, and Air Jamaica. He also previously served on the boards of various private companies, including Sandals Resorts and Nasdaq-listed Playa Hotels and Resorts.
Zacca, a seasoned leader in the corporate world, served five years over two separate terms as president of the PSOJ, making him the longest-serving past president, second only to the organisation’s founding president, the late Carlton Alexander.
The PSOJ stated that during his two terms as president, Zacca championed public-private partnerships and led initiatives that have significantly shaped Jamaica’s trajectory.
“This includes conceptualising a paradigm shift in the energy sector, which led to the formation of the Electricity Sector Enterprise Team (ESET),” the organisation said. “As a founding member of the Economic Programme Oversight Committee (EPOC), he provided supervision on Jamaica’s transformative International Monetary Fund agreement in 2013.”
During the COVID-19 crisis, Zacca led a private-sector donor group that raised J$75 million for life-saving initiatives, chaired the Private Sector COVID-19 Vaccine Initiative, and served on Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force.
In 2014, Zacca’s significant contributions were recognised with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD).
“His accomplishments across business, philanthropy, public service, and national development make him an extraordinarily worthy inductee into the PSOJ Hall of Fame,” the organisation said..
The 30th Anniversary PSOJ Hall of Fame Induction Banquet is set to take place on October 31.
