Kudos to two caring policemen

THE EDITOR, Sir:
On Friday, July 24, at approximately 7:50 p.m., I was standing along Princess Street in downtown Kingston in close proximity to the hospital.
I was talking with a friend when I noticed a couple hobbling down the street very slowly with the woman in obvious pain and discomfort.
Apparently, she was coming from the Kingston Public Hospital after being treated and released.
I remarked to my friend that I wish a police unit would pass so I could stop them and ask to assist this couple.
No sooner had I uttered the words, a patrol van with two officers came down the road. Before I could say a word, the unit passed the couple, broke up sharply, put on the indicator, pulled to the left and stopped.
The couple caught up with the stationary vehicle and then the policeman beckoned to them and asked where they were going. Their response I didn't hear, but they were then told to go into the vehicle.
Before it moved again, I went up to the unit and expressed how much I appreciated their actions as they were a classic example of what they are about - to serve and protect.
I did not get the station from which they were attached but they gave me their names as Corporal Wilson, the driver, and Constable Smith, the observer. I suspect they are from Kingston Central Police Station.
In these times when the image of the force is taking a battering, it is deeds like this that should be highlighted to show the other side of the police force.
Gentlemen, wherever you are now, I wish to applaud your kind and caring gesture and wish for you both all the best in your careers. Respect.
