Garvey bust more precious than UWI students' lives

I'm a concerned student of the University of the West Indies (UWI), and rightly so when I read of the resources being spent on security personnel to guard the Marcus Garvey bust erected by the Faculty of Humanities.

The guard was installed after the bust was feathered and splashed with paint by vandals.

I was alarmed at the decision for 24-hour surveillance of the bust when three of the eight entrances to the university are not manned round the clock one connected to Mona Road, the one near Princess Alice, and the one by August Town. Why is this so? A lot of UWI students commute through these gates to their residences off campus. Am I to understand that the Garvey bust is worth more than the lives of these students, who are subjected to robbery and rape?
