NIDS will benefit us on all fronts

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The passage of the National Identification System bill makes for a great day for Jamaica.

This is something that is necessary, on many fronts, in helping Jamaica assimilate into the 21st century quite purposefully, and progressively. It's inconceivable how one can govern a country and not have a clue as to who's in that country. There's no real, or validated census of the people.

I am convinced that when NIDS takes effect, Jamaica will realise a change in trajectory for the better of the country and its people. This system will capture readable and readily available data for the Government to utilise for the distribution of resources, health, education, etc. Businesses can use this information to look at various societal demographics, and other uses that will improve the lives of people in Jamaica.

NIDS will also help in fighting crime more efficiently. It would be quite disturbing for anyone to believe that implementation of NIDS would be infringing on anyone's rights.
