For some love

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I feel some amount of sadness that in only the first week of a New Year, I have lost a bit of the hope with which I entered the year. Sure, a new year will inevitably bring with it some old baggage of the previous 365 days, but I was hoping at least for a change in the mood of the nation. Yes, all I see on the news is anger and death and destruction and hatred. How do we change this? Can it even be changed?

I think that as we ponder the big problems that we face, such as crime, poverty, and sexual deviance, we should think about the fact that all of these issues could be helped with a bit more love. Love alone won't fix everything, but it will surely help some things. If we inject more love in our daily interactions, we would be surprised by the outcome. It is easy to hate and be angry all the time. It takes more mental strength to show love in tough times. But Jamaicans are tough, and I know we can do it. We just need the will to do it.
