Ticketing owners unjust, unfair

THE EDITOR, Sir:
If what I have been hearing and reading about in the news in relation to the proposal to inflict punishment upon the owner of a motor vehicle for a crime committed by the driver of the owner's car is true, then it seems that we are setting the stage for our people to experience much injustice.
The rich will escape. All they will need to do is to purchase a car for each member of the family to own and operate for themselves. For the rest of us who may be forced by circumstances to lend our cars from time to time to trusted family members whom we know to be good drivers, we will now run the risk of being prosecuted and punished for road traffic offences we did not commit nor authorise. How could our parliamentarians preside over such injustice? What is proposed is irrational.
Why not put those new police motorcycles to use in apprehending the drivers, the real criminals, who deliberately disobey the roles of the road and stop near the middle of intersections and junctions?
And if the police force is understaffed, why not employ sufficient police to operate these motorbikes and apprehend the real driver-criminals? Why presume that all motor car owners are participants in the alleged traffic violations?
