West Indies cricket plumbs new depths

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Bangladesh (508) beat the West Indies (111 and 204) by an innings and 184 runs to complete a 2-0 series win.
Bangladesh?

One man - Mahmudullah (136) - made more than all 11 West Indies batsmen in the first innings. West Indies' first innings had lasted only 51 minutes on the third morning, after resuming from 75 for 5.We were at one time 29-5, all the batsmen being bowled.

All 40 West Indies wickets in the series fell to spinners.
The only thing that brought some cheer was Hetmyer's 93 off 92 balls with nine sixes, the most by a batsman against Bangladesh.

Listen, friends, for some time now I have had to be living in the land of nostalgia
- The first tied Test in Brisbane (1960).
- The West Indies tour of England (1963).
- Rohan Kanhai (118), batting without even a cap at Perth (1971/72).
- Rohan Kanhai (157) at Lord's (1973).
- Michael Holding at the Oval - 16 wickets (1976)

- Gordon Greenidge (214 no) and Larry Gomes (92 no) at Lord's - a second-wicket partnership of 287, a new record against England in a total of 344-1 (1984).
- Eldine Baptiste (87 no), Michael Holding (69) at Edgbaston (1984)

- Carl Hooper's batting on his day (Pakistan, England, Australia).

- Brian Lara's 277 run out at the SCG (1993).

I don't even have time to mention Sobers, Haynes, Richards, Richardson and Lloyd, and most of the bowlers.
There seems to be no pride in the maroon cap - not the kind of pride of the Australians in the baggy green.
Let us put our best XI together and let us give the world a run for their money on any type of pitch!
