Concerned about crime on Red Hills Road

THE EDITOR, Sir:
I feel compelled to write this letter in view of the continued slaughter of Jamaicans returning and home based and the increased insecurity felt by many of us.

It is not well with my soul, as indeed I know one of the people who returned who was killed years ago after her son and his girlfriend were also killed. The killing of the two young people was connected with the worsening situation of criminality and social decay on Red Hills Road.
Fast-forward to Friday when I learned that a first-former in a high school near Red Hills Road was robbed of her lunch money and nearly abducted by a gunman, and only her quick wits allowed her to get released alive. She was shattered when she arrived at school and her mother was called.

There are now school children arming themselves, as they fear being robbed, or even worse.
Some months ago, a graduate student from UWI and a group of friends were robbed at knifepoint and gunpoint as they exited a major shopping area of Red Hills Road.
For 2019, we have to admit and address these problems as the social decay spreads and more people take up arms.
