Portmore crimes on the rise

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Portmore is slowly becoming a hot bed of criminal activity and the Government needs to intervene before it is too late. This week, the community scored a major victory when a licensed firearm holder was able to take down three criminals at once. However, not many have been, or will be so fortunate.

Unlike other communities where there is evidence of gang warfare, the criminals have taken up residence in Portmore and are terrorizing the citizens as they come and go, particularly at night.

Nobody dead ... yet

These many occurrences do not make the news because nobody is dying ... yet. The residents are reporting being held up at gunpoint.

Given the layout of Portmore, it is easy for criminals to hide in the community. We, the residents, have taken note that one of those criminals killed was out on bail on a murder charge.

This is of grave concern to us. How many more are living among us? We have invested in property here and moving is not much of an option right now.

So while we raise the alarm on Montego Bay, Clarendon, and Spanish Town, please take a deeper look at the Sunshine City.
