Byles an excellent choice

Published:Wednesday | June 19, 2019 | 12:43 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Choosing Richard Byles to be the governor of the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) is like, hypothetically speaking, choosing Peter Espeut to be the chairman of the National Environment and Planning Agency, choosing Dervan Malcolm to be Jamaica’s ambassador to the USA, and/or choosing Yendi Phillips to be the head of the School of Dance at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts. Either, or all of those choices, would be excellent.

Likewise, the man who will, in short order, succeed outgoing BOJ Governor Brian Wynter could not be a better, more suitable, and more deserving choice for that prestigious and powerful post.

Richard Byles’ excellent track record of strong, steady and decisive leadership, honesty and integrity, hard work and dedication has garnered great and consistent successes in the world of banking, business and commerce.

Well done and congrats, Mr Byles, on your newest and what will, perhaps, be your most challenging appointment, to date. Jamaica and Jamaicans will, no doubt, over time, benefit immensely from your governance of the BOJ.
