Restoring National Heroes Park

THE EDITOR, Sir:
It would seem as if we need to hold or accord deserving Jamaicans State funerals.
This morning (Friday, June 21) as I journeyed to work, I could not avoid glancing at the National Heroes Park and seeing workmen labouring in the broiling sun to complete work at the park for the burial ceremony and interment of former Prime Minister Edward Philip George Seaga and soon-to-be national hero.
I ask the question once again, why have we allowed the National Heroes Park to fall into the condition it is now in?
The People’s National Party administration under former Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller spent millions of dollars to transform and beautify the park. However, today it is in such a deplorable condition that millions more have to be spent to put it in an acceptable condition in order to have the committal and interment ceremony for Mr Seaga.
When will the park be finally transformed, or, for that matter, when will the new parliament building be erected?
I eagerly await answers from the Government, as the last contract to construct fencing, etc, was aborted.
Will the new parliament building be built in my lifetime? I earnestly await answers from the Government.
