What is happening with Dean-Roy Bernard issue?

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Dean-Roy Bernard was transferred from the Ministry of Education as permanent secretary to the Ministry of Finance as director general in what he considered a demotion. Subsequent to that, he brought the matter to the courts and late last year a ruling was made that he should be returned to the post currently being acted out by Grace McLean, who has been playing a pivotal role in the Ministry of Education from before 2012 as chief education officer.

Indeed, Ms McLean was passed over by at least two former permanent secretaries, one of whom, Maurice Smith, was fired from his job by then minister Ruel Reid.

The information I have is that the court had ruled that Mr Bernard should be returned in February of 2020 and I would therefore like to know what is the position of the Public Services Commission on this matter.

What I find funny is that Karl Samuda has been offering plaudits on the performance of Ms McLean when information is out there that she was a key player in the debacle concerning the Caribbean Maritime University. Indeed, Mr Bernard expressed concerns about monies spent on anniversaries that he had cause to disassociate himself from.

Why has the matter of Dean-Roy Bernard been such a hush hush?

While everyone is criticising the parents, and rightful so, we should also look at our leaders who neglect and corrupt the very jobs they are given.

This is a grand hypocrisy in Jamaica today.
