Schools need more male mentors

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The problem in schools now |with students attacking other students, and also teachers, is a virus that is troubling. A lot of these young people don’t have anyone to mentor them and explain how they can see a better future.

I am suggesting that the Government establish boot camps around the island for bad-behaving students, to rehabilitate them to become productive citizens of society.

The misbehaviour of some of these students is also as a result of men in society staying away from civic responsibility, such as serving on a PTA body or school board. They are needed to mentor the students who come from the inner city, where many times the only activity they see around them is crime and violence.

My brothers in this nation, please take up the responsibility and lend a hand to help the government fight this monster of crime that is infecting our schools. If you don’t have a child in school, you can still serve on a school PTA body at a school near you. The principals would be happy to have you.

I call on all those already assisting to continue to promote the image of your school; and help the church pray for the schools.
