Don’t waste taxpayers’ money on Trafigura

THE EDITOR, Madam:

How much will this Trafigura thing cost the Jamaican taxpayers, and will anyone be held responsible for the corruption that had taken place?

I don’t believe that Jamaica, at this time, should be bothering to spend taxpayers’ money on this case unless there is a clear path to charging those who were involved in this corruption scandal.

After all these years, I thought this case was over and done with. So, are we going to see the same thing over the sale of Air Jamaica slots and the airline itself? I think we must be pound wise and penny foolish, instead of the other way around.

We shouldn’t be spending money on these things if we are not willing to go full throttle and lay charges against those who were involved. As the saying goes, “Why waste powder on blackbirds.”

We need to really have an islandwide discussion about our justice system and what it really means because, right now, it seems that the rich are exempt from this system of justice in Jamaica; it just doesn’t seem to apply to them.
