Inspiring speech by Holding

THE EDITOR, Madam:

Former West Indies fast bowler Michael Holding, who is a brilliant cricket commentator, spoke a few days ago on racism, and it was a very interesting speech, a very emotional one indeed.

Holding gave a very emotional speech during the just-concluded cricket match against England and the West Indies in Southampton, he also spoke about the Black Lives Matters protest.

This is just a small portion of what the former fast bowler said: “I hope people understand exactly what I’m saying and exactly where I’m coming from. I’m 66 years old. I have seen it, I have been through it, and I have experienced it with other people.” Holding went on, saying: “It cannot continue like this. We have to understand that people are people,” he said.

Some of what Holding said about racism I did not know, so I have learned something from it.

For me, it was an excellent address by the former West Indies cricketer. I gave him credit for standing up and against racism and colour prejudice. I am inviting all those who were unable to hear Holding’s speech to go on YouTube and listen to it. It is an eye-opener.
