For many, fashion is a state of mind. Gone are the days that full-figured women are shying away from style. In fact, they are embracing their curves and pulling off any trend with confidence. As a curvy girl, Sanna-Kay Davis has always prided herself on putting her best looks forward. The educator shares her approach to making social media her personal runway.

Going by the moniker Sassy Sanny, the style enthusiast has made it her point of duty to doll up for any occasion and showcase her latest taste for others to see. “I think I have always been a fashionista. I’ve always made the simplest outfit fancy,” she told Living.

She recalled having a knack for fashion, so much so that she would choose styles for others around her. The journey started with her baby sister who was nine months old. “I remember, at seven years old, my mom was going to the store. I didn’t like what my baby sister was wearing, so I put on this cute coat for her that she would normally wear when it’s cold. It was a hot summer’s day,” she said while laughing.

Davis was so determined to make that jacket work that she would put her baby sister to sleep, “She was sweating so much that my mom put on something cooler to make her comfortable.”

The fashionista has come a far way, noting that her own style has definitely evolved since then. Nowadays, the educator has been taking others to school for lessons on chic, classy, elegant, confident and bold in plus size fashion. “I’m complimented on a daily basis at work, in stores and many times on social media.” she added.

While she was living in Jamaica, she found it difficult to purchase clothes, because full-figured couture or ready-to-wear fashion would be pricier than for the average body type. The moment she migrated to the United States, the shopping process became easier.

Some of the brands that she enjoys wearing include Fashion Nova, Who What Wear from Target, Torrid and Express, “There are many clothing options readily available, but these brands are flexible and versatile,” she said.

When asked about her style essentials and trends that she is passionate about, Davis shared a few of those making it to her ‘lights, camera, action’ style reel. “I am currently into denim, hats and dress tops in assorted colours. I’m also interested in combinations of blazers and skinny jeans, maxi dresses and sneakers, along with colour-blocking techniques,” she said, adding, “Belts are my go-to! Being a plus size with a fupa, my fits are never snug in the midsection. I choose colours and styles that really highlight my skin and body type.”

Noting that the growth and gratitude are inexpressible, Davis is planning to continue on this same style trajectory, with hopes of elevating, especially on special occasions.

For plus-size women seeking to discover their style but unsure where to begin, her advice is to conduct thorough research and seek assistance from others, “Don’t be afraid to ask someone whose style you admire [for advice] or ask a friend who has a good fashion sense, to pick out your outfits.”
