A strong detachment of local and international law enforcement officers is now at the United States Embassy in Kingston after a man reportedly threw a bag over the perimeter wall.

The man – said to be Caucasian-looking – was held by security officers.

Footage shows the man who threw the bag over US Embassy wall trying to escape the grasp of security officers, Edmond Campbell reports.

The incident has caused a shutdown of operations at the Embassy.

The police are currently moving people from the vicinity of the embassy.

Police and soldiers are now taking up positions on top of the buildings.

People with visa appointments for today have been asked to wait for an update.

The incident comes ahead of the April 9 visit of US President Barack Obama.
