The University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona student accused of attacking a female colleague in February is to return to court today.

Stetson Rodney, who is on bail, will be making his second appearance before the Half-Way Tree Resident Magistrate’s Court.

He is charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm following the February 10 incident.

The 20-year-old female victim of the alleged attack received a head injury.

The girl was allegedly beaten after enquiring why stones were thrown at her and another female while walking on Chancellor Hall, which is an all-male dormitory.

The incident sparked several student-protests on campus, forcing the administration to acknowledge that there may be issues of violence on its campus of which it is not aware.

The incident also came as the university disputed a report from a UN specialist about gender-based violence on its campus.
