UWI, Mona thwarts credit card fraud

Some students of the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus, have been using fraudulent credit cards to pay their tuition fees.

According to the university, in conducting its regular audits, it uncovered irregularities relating to the payment of tuition fees using its E-Commerce website.

"Investigations into these irregularities commenced some six months ago, and it has been found that fraudulent credit cards were being used to pay these fees," said the university.

Four persons have already been arrested in relation to the matter.

"The University of The West Indies, Mona, wishes to remind all students of the importance of being wary of individuals who purport to be able to assist with the payment of fees or any other such transaction, and to make all payments pertaining to their financial obligations to the university only to the University itself, or through authorised collection agencies."
