Government appoints Chief Information Officer

The government has hired a Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Minister of State in the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining (STEM), Julian Robinson says Dr Louis Shallal will be responsible for streamlining technology services in all government agencies to improve efficiency, cut costs and eliminate duplications.

Robinson was speaking at the Zed Makeyla Technology award yesterday.

The appointment of the CIO comes against the backdrop of the World Information Technology Report released by the World Economic Forum this week.

The report indicates that Jamaica has improved its overall ranking in IT. 

Jamaica now ranks 82nd out of 143 countries up from 86th last year.
