Retrial ordered for former Latin Movement Nightclub owners on human trafficking charge
A retrial has been ordered for Kingston businesswoman, Hermalinda Parker, and her husband, Anthony, who are accused of trafficking in persons.
Justice Jennifer Straw made the order in the Home Circuit Court yesterday after the seven-member jury returned a divided verdict.
The jury deliberated for more than five hours.
Parker’s daughter, Lynn Scantlebury, was, however, freed of the charge.
The couple was ordered remanded and is to return to court on May 6 when a bail application will be heard.
The trial lasted for seven weeks.
It is being alleged that young girls were recruited from abroad and forced to work at a nightclub operated by the businesswoman.
Hermalinda is the former owner of the Latin Movement Nightclub at the Dunrobin Plaza in St Andrew.
