SERHA dismisses claims of non-functioning elevators at KPH

The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) is dismissing reports that elevators at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH) are malfunctioning.

SERHA Board Chairman, Dr. Andrei Cooke, says the Region recently commissioned a modern elevator at the facility.

According to Cooke, the new elevator is the second to be commissioned since February 2015 and brings to three, the number of elevators that are functional at KPH.

He said the new elevator is located just outside of the Accident and Emergency Department, which allows for the movement of patients in a more timely manner.

Cooke also said the focus has now been shifted to modernising a third elevator which is expected to be fully functional in another five weeks.

He says the elevator modernisation project will allow the KPH to serve patients more effectively as the hospital relies on the lifts to transport patients to the various service areas in the hospital.

The SERHA Board chairman says the project is being implemented at a cost of over $30 million.
