St James cops on corruption charges for trial August

The three St James cops accused of taking a bribe of more than $320,000 from a motorist are to go on trial for corruption on August 17.
The date was set when Corporals Joseph Robinson and Robert Thomas, and Constable Andre Small, appeared in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Their bails were also extended.
The court was told that the prosecution intends to call seven witnesses.
A request was also made for the civilian witnesses in the matter to be subpoenaed to attend court.
It is being alleged that in 2014 the three cops took more than $320,000 from a motorist as a bribe not to prosecute him after the motorist was reportedly held with a sum of money.
The cops were subsequently charged with breaches of the Corruption Prevention Act.
