Bunting makes plans for police post at Spanish Town bus park
National Security Minister Peter Bunting has announced plans to establish a police post at the Spanish Town bus park, in St Catherine.
This as part of several initiatives aimed at stamping out what is believed to be a very lucrative extortion racket run by criminal gangs and to reduce criminal activities in the Spanish Town area.
The national security minister acknowledged that the bus park has been losing money because of the racket, but says the police post will ensure a permanent presence by members of the security forces.
He says the operation of the bus park will be overhauled to bring it under the strict control of the St Catherine Parish Council.
Bunting says this will ensure that the revenues generated go to the parish council and the communities it serve instead of being used to support criminal activity.
He was speaking during a tour of the St Catherine North Police Division on Thursday.
