Trial delayed for five St James lottery scammers

Five alleged St James lottery scammers, accused of conning Americans to obtain more than US$500,000, are to return to the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate’s Court on September 9.
They remain on bail until that time.
The accused: Marlon Lawrence, Ricardo McLean, Bunny Tomblin, Damian Hutchinson and Shadrock Miller, appeared in court today.
They are charged with breaches of the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act.
The trial was expected to get underway yesterday but had to be put off after the court was informed that the prosecution hadn't served a number of documents on the defence.
The court was also told that one of the prosecution’s witnesses was ill.
It is alleged that between 2005 and 2008 the five men worked together to con several persons in the United States.
Lawrence reportedly defrauded two United States residents of approximately US$12, 500 during this period.
