PM to lead islandwide child abuse prevention campaign

Amid a spate of violent attacks against the nation’s children, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller is to lead an islandwide campaign aimed at engaging citizens on ways to prevent child abuse.

Youth Minister Lisa Hanna says the campaign will begin on May 28 in Clarendon.

More than 26 children have been killed since the start of the year.

Among them are 14-year-old Frome Technical High School student Santoya Campbell and 14-year-old Donald Quarrie High School student Kayalicia Simpson, who were both pregnant at the time they were killed.

Addressing a recent Jamaica Information Service ‘Think Tank’, Hanna said during the islandwide tour Simpson Miller will engage citizens in what she described as courageous conversations.

She says the Prime Minister will also outline some of the measures being put in place to stamp out child abuse and provide greater protection for the nation’s children.
