Road fatalities down in May

The National Road Safety Council (NRSC) is reporting that half way through the month of May there has been a decrease in the number of persons killed on the nation's roadways.

Since the start of the month seven persons have died in six motor vehicle crashes, a 30 per cent reduction when compared with the 10 road deaths recorded for the first half of May last year.

Last month 32 persons were killed in 30 motor vehicle crashes.

However, despite the gains, statistics compiled by the NRSC show that since the start of the year road fatalities have increased 10 per cent when compared with the corresponding period last year.

Up to yesterday, 133 persons have been killed in 121 motor vehicle crashes, 13 more fatalities than the corresponding period last year.
