Rain contributed to Corporate Area power outages, says JPS
The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) says it is working to address a problem which has left some customers without electricity since yesterday.
The power to those customers was disrupted following a downpour of rain yesterday.
Corporate Communications Officer at JPS, Audrey Williams, explains that the situation is caused by surges resulting from rainwater mixing with debris on power lines.
She says the surges caused some transformers to explode.
Noting that the problem was only reported in the Corporate Area, Williams says power has since been restored to some areas and teams are still working to fix the issue in others.
She says the JPS is also clearing power lines of debris to minimise a reoccurrence of the problem.
She says the programme of line washing started two weeks ago.
