Teachers hope for better wage offer ahead of today's meeting

The island’s teachers are still hoping they’ll get news of an improved wage offer following a meeting their representatives are set to attend at the finance ministry today.
Last week Thursday, the minister without portfolio with responsibility for the public service, Horace Dalley, met with the Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) and agreed on all but one item in a 30-point wage and benefit claim.
The outstanding item is the five per cent wage offer that has been made by the government.
The teachers have rejected the offer calling for a 30 per cent increase over two years.
JTA president, Doran Dixon, has said while he is encouraged by the negotiations he’s hoping for a better offer when the parties meet today.
