The National Water Commission (NWC) says the water in its storage facilities would only last for another 15 days at most if it did not implement restrictions.

The NWC’s acting president, Mark Barnett, made the disclosure on the soon to be published Gleaner Online current affairs programme, On the Record.

The agency's s main storage facilities are the Mona Reservoir and the Hermitage Dam which serve the Kingston and St Andrew region.

Barnett says up to today, the Mona Reservoir was at 32 per cent of its capacity and the Hermitage Dam at 40 per cent.

He says without improvements in inflows and the restrictions implemented, water in storage would run out in about two weeks.

The NWC water supply systems have been affected by the ongoing drought conditions caused mainly by the absence of the usual May and June rains.

Southern and eastern parishes are the most affected.

Yesterday, the Water Minister, Robert Pickersgill, announced a prohibition order on certain activities in order to force water conservation.

The NWC has been having routine water lock-offs to save on water.
