JEEP progresses in St James

State Minister for Transport, Works and Housing, Richard Azan, last Friday toured infrastructural projects in East Central St James, completed under the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme (JEEP).

The four rehabilitated roadways are Lover's Lane, Dollar Mango, Timber Close and Green Park. They were repaired at a cost of $12 million.

Speaking at a ceremony in the Adelphi community, Azan expressed satisfaction with the level of work done on the roadways, noting the projects were completed in the scheduled time and within budget.

He pointed out that the rehabilitated roadways would serve more than 7,000 residents in the communities.

After opening the roadways, Azan toured other areas under consideration for benefit under JEEP, including roads in Content, Chelsea Crescent and Corner Road. He also visited Latuim, where a bridge is being proposed for construction under JEEP.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for East Central St James, Edmund Bartlett, who also toured the areas, expressed thanks to the management of JEEP for the allocation to his constituency, which covered the cost to rehabilitate the roadways. He said the success of the projects was due to the high level of partnership between stakeholders.

"This is a good example of the collaboration between the National Works Agency and JEEP to ensure that we could have greater efficiency, and get more as a result," he said.
