West Indies cricketers 'play by ear'

Members of the West Indies team had to quickly learn to 'play by ear' when they played against the Jamaica Visually Impaired Cricket Association (JAVICA) team on June 10. The friendly match took place at Sabina Park in Kingston and the 17-member JAVICA squad played against some top members of the West Indies squad.

"This was really a great experience for us," said Jason Ricketts, a member of JAVICA. "It's really an honour to be rubbing shoulders with these players. We're really happy for the opportunity and humbled that these men could actually make the time to come out and play with us."

West Indies bowler Jason Holder described the experience as inspiring, saying, "Playing with the team of blind cricketers was a really great and inspiring experience." The players on the West Indies squad were blindfolded, forcing them to rely on their sense of hearing to play the Digicel-sponsored game.
