JTA says tardiness by Education Ministry affecting recruitment efforts

The Jamaica Teachers' Association (JTA) is claiming that the failure of the Education Ministry to deduct dues from the salaries of new teachers is affecting its recruitment efforts.
This was revealed in the JTA's 2015 annual report tabled at the organisation's three-day annual conference now underway in Montego Bay, St James.
"One of the challenges associated with the effort to recruit new members is the pace at which they are picked up by the Ministry of Education," Secretary General, Byron Farquharson stated in his report.
According to the report, between September 2014 and June 2015, the JTA submitted to the Education Ministry, a total of 877 dues deduction requests for new teachers but only 663 were able to be granted membership, because of ministry's tardiness.
