Justice of the Peace charged in St. Mary scam

A 66-year-old Justice of the Peace (JP) and former Parish Manager of the Social Development Commission in St. Mary is before the courts for allegedly defrauding several farmers.
The JP, Jeanette Rose-Bryan, was today charged with several offences under the Larceny Act when she appeared in the Port Maria Resident Magistrate’s Court.
Rose-Bryan was charged with obtaining money by false pretences, fraudulent conversion and conspiracy to defraud.
She was offered bail in the amount of $250,000.
The police say the charges against her are connected to the case involving Deputy Superintendent of Police Denise McKain, who was arrested and charged earlier this month with similar offences.
It is alleged that during the period 2009 to 2012, Rose-Bryan and DSP McKain used an unregistered organisation to fraudulently solicit and obtain money from farmers of Three Hills in St. Mary.
