KSAC denounces corruption following arrest of building inspector

The Kingston and St Andrew Corporation (KSAC) has issued a statement denouncing corruption saying any member of staff proven to be involved will be immediately dismissed and the matter turned over to the police for criminal prosecution.
The warning follows yesterday’s arrest of a 28-year-old KSAC building inspector for soliciting $500,000 from a developer and accepting money from him to expedite the renewal of an expired building permit.

"It is with great disappointment that the KSAC was informed that a member of staff was arrested for allegedly attempting to extort money from a developer," a KSAC spokesperson said in a release.
The KSAC says all fees charged by the Corporation are to be paid at its offices and no member of staff is empowered to collect building fees, fees for entertainment events or any other fee outside of the corporate offices of the KSAC for which an official receipt will be given.
The KSAC says the Mayor, Angela Brown Burke; the Town Clerk, Robert Hill and all councillors are determined to protect the integrity of the Council.
